According to an ancient Chinese legend, Peng Zu, a renowned Taoist figure, is said to have lived for over 800 years; in these accounts, he consumed Ganoderma lucidum every day. Because of this legend, Ganoderma is sometimes referred to as the “mushroom of immortality”. This is a legend only but as a legend, it passed down through the centuries, and this is because it reflects the deep reverence and respect that Eastern culture holds for this precious fungus, also known as Reishi.
A sacred land: the Wuyi Mountains

Located in Fujian, China, the Wuyi Mountains, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are considered one of the traditional regions associated with the cultivation of Ganoderma lucidum. Here, among dense forests, flowing spring water, and frequent mountain mist, the mushroom grows in a carefully managed environment.
ORGANO sources its Ganoderma from this region, where:
- Air and water quality are monitored to meet relevant environmental and safety standards, including national drinking water parameters;
- Soil is managed in accordance with national organic farming guidelines;- Sites are located away from densely populated areas, helping reduce the potential for environmental exposure;
- No synthetic fertilisers or chemical pesticides are applied; cultivation relies on manual – methods based on traditional practices;
- Only one Ganoderma mushroom every 30 cm.
Tradition meets Innovation: cultivation with care and respect
After two years of cultivation, the land is left to rest for three years before a new cycle begins, following agricultural rotation practices designed to maintain soil quality and natural balance. Irrigation uses mountain spring water, and both weeding and pest management are carried out manually, in accordance with traditional methods.
Through this careful approach, ORGANO’s manufacturing partner maintain consistent raw material quality and uphold recognised organic certification standards across their cultivation sites.

Certifications that validate excellence
ORGANO was among the first companies in the world to prioritise the quality of Ganoderma lucidum, choosing to collaborate with manufacturing partners who follow documented quality procedures and hold organic certifications in multiple jurisdictions, including the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States (USDA Organic), Japan (JAS), and China. The certifications apply to stages of raw material cultivation and handling, and are issued by recognised control bodies in accordance with the relevant regulatory frameworks.

The secret lies in the spore: advanced harvesting technology
The Ganoderma lucidum spore is a key part of the fungal life cycle, released only once the fruiting body reaches maturity. This natural release period typically lasts around three to four months.
ORGANO’s manufacturing partner harvest only the spores released during the early phase that is approximately the first 50 days and when the material is at its most intact. A controlled collection process is used, involving the placement of food-grade white cardboard tubes over the mature mushrooms. This method minimises contact with sediment or airborne contaminants and avoids the use of plastic materials during collection.
The resulting spore powder is then handled and processed in accordance with established quality procedures designed to preserve the material’s natural composition and integrity.
This approach reflects ORGANO’s commitment to sourcing raw materials that are handled with care, and with respect for both tradition and traceability.

More than a product – a Legacy
Organo does not just sell Ganoderma. It preserves a millennia-old tradition, honours a cultural heritage, to offer products that reflect both history and innovation. ORGANO’s Ganoderma lucidum is inspired by legend, cultivated through traditional methods in carefully managed natural environments, and sourced from certified plantations that meet recognised international quality and organic standards.
